A day when precious memories were made.

On 27th November 2014 we lost a very special lady – my Granny. She was a wonderful lady in many ways, not least for her kind, giving heart.  Growing up Granny loved to spoil me and my 2 sisters, at Christmas we got giant sacks crammed with sweets and toys and clothes and all sorts of bit and bobs.

When J, S and L came along Granny was just delighted and the love that they had for one another was mutual.

We were all gutted to lose Granny, but on the other hand delighted that she was now reunited with Granda in heaven. Granny had her Christmas presents and cards for her family all organised before she passed away and on the first day of the holidays we had a very special day in her honour.

Like I said Granny just adored her great grandchildren and took such delight in seeing them happy. She had left them each a card with some spending money to treat themselves to whatever they wanted.  We decided to go to Build a Bear with the hope that they will treasure the memories and indeed the bears that were made for many, many years.

It was lovely to be able to spoil the children that day. It’s not very often they get told to pick whatever they want and to hear, “yes” to all their ‘wants’ in a shop, but this day was different. I explained to them why we were going and J was really touched, he said, “she was a kind, lovely lady wasn’t she mum?”

They each picked out the ‘bear’ that they wanted. For J it was a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle, for S it was Olaf and for L it was the pinkest bear that she could find!

When you go to Victoria Square at this time of year, you just *have* to get a snap in front of the big one!

Having a little chat with the lady about Granny H and why we’re making our bears.

Picking out a special heart to go inside  – L and S gave theirs a little kiss.

Having picked out some pj’s for Olaf (?!), a tutu, scarf and hat for pink bear and some weapons for Leonardo, we set about making their birth certificates.

We then caused some mayhem in a VERY busy Victoria Square (this WAS 3 days before Christmas!) with 3 small children with 3 very large boxes in comparison!!

They then picked to spend the remainder of their money in Pizza Hut!

It was really one of the most lovely days, one which we will always treasure as a family.

Granny would have been so delighted and proud of her 3 great grandchildren that day. It felt so right to spend a day like this in her memory it was exactly what she would have wanted. I know the kids will always remember Granny Harvey for her kindness and goodness to them and Olaf, Emily (what L chose to name her!) and Leonardo will be a great reminder of that.

  1. Such gorgeous pictures Karen. You are the cutest wee family! Bless your wee Granny, she sounds like the loveliest person! I’ll bet she was having a little smile to herself watching those boxes flying round Victoria Square! 🙂 xx
